About Lingformant
Lingformant, lauched in the summer of 2005, is a blog service geared towards individuals working in the various fields of linguistics. Its main function is to keep us up to date with the latest news headlines related to the study and understanding of language.
Lingformant is totally free for everyone. It is updated at least once a day, unless there are no relevant news to report about or if I am unable to connect to the Internet for one reason or another.
The service is single-handedly run by me, Vili Maunula. I graduated in 2007 with a Master’s Degree in English Philology, with my thesis work written in theoretical linguistics. I am currently contemplating my options about whether or not to continue with a PhD. For more information about me and my interests, you are welcome to browse around my website here at VertebrateSilence.com.
You can also contact me directly by e-mail at vili[dot]maunula[at]gmail[dot]com (replace the bracketed bits with the corresponding graphical symbols).
As the service is run by a human being, there is some editing process going on. First of all, I do my best to monitor various relevant news sources, yet sometimes I may miss articles that ought to be reported here. In case you know any such pieces, please contact me.
There are also certain articles that I do not include here. As the service is mainly aimed at those with a scientific approach to the study of language (i.e. those we call “linguists”), I retain from linking to news articles that have absolutely no scientific background to them. This does not, however, exclude all the news stories that might be deemed “unscientific”. And neither does it mean that I would in any way be peer-reviewing the scientific validity of any claims made in the various articles that are published. This is also to say that I do not try to impose any kind of personal view through the editing process.
The bottom line is that each and every article is judged separately.

Hello Vili - just found this and wanted to drop you a line to say nice! and thanks. I am just starting out in linguistics, after living in a tiny but of course linguistically dense region of the Pacific as a Peace Corps volunteer. I will puruse the site and see what other goodies are here. Take care and keep up the good work! S
